There are plenty of people who would adopt the unwanted animals at shelters across the country if they had the space. Families would love to share the childhoods of their children with pets, but they often lack the space that is necessary to comfortably house and care for an animal. Reptiles are often happy to spend time outside of their living environment and will sit on humans and be social, but they are just as content in their cages or glass enclosures.
Those looking for something a little less lizard-like can set up an aquarium in their home and fill it with colorful fish. Fish are great pets and require very little attention, but at the end of a long day they offer relaxation and companionship. Watching a fish swim in its tank is one of the most soothing forms of meditation there is.
