For a business person who runs his business online, the main worry is about keyword ranking or search engine ranking. However, for a person who owns a forum, things might turn awkward at times. This is because some people might not remember the netiquettes while talking on a public forum.

Talking on a public forum is quite different than talking to a group of people face to face. This is because many people take the advantage of being anonymous on the web, and say things they would not otherwise. Well, one should keep in mind that talking to a group of people on the web also demands a few etiquettes. Even though, they might not be carved on stone somewhere, but one should know them before socializing in these group discussions.

Whatever you do, just keep in mind that you have to treat people the way you want to be treated. Similarly, do not say anything that you would not say on a person's face. Try to be polite and do not insult anyone in any way. Make sure whatever you write on these group discussions is not offensive or hurtful to anyone.

You must also keep in mind that an online group discussion is for every age group. You might get young people, as well as elderly ones on a group chat. Therefore, you must take care of the tone of voice you are using and how people may feel about what you write.

You must not write in all caps. Writing in such a manner gives an impression as if you are shouting! Do not forget that it is a public discussion and you will find differences in opinions. Nevertheless, losing your temper and pretending as if you are yelling at the other person is not a good thing to do.

It is better to keep a simple and non-offensive tone at all times. A good idea is to use emoticons. Small emoticons will help you deliver the real tone you had in your mind while you typed. At times, you might not intend to be harsh, but because you are only writing and not talking face to face, the other person might take your words in a harsh sense. To let them know of your real tone, use emoticons.

Abusive language is a big NO! You must not ever try to use abusive language on these discussion forums. Even if you do, the forum owner will remove your comment, so there is no point in writing some stuff that will be removed. Again, keep in mind the diversity of the ages of the people in the discussion board.

Be to the point. People might not be very enthusiastic about reading stories. Write only what is related to the topic and avoid using unnecessary details before reaching the main point. Overly long sentences are uninteresting for the readers. Out of their annoyance, they might just skip your comment and move to the following one.

Keeping a good attitude at public forums is a healthy habit. You might think you are anonymous, but somehow, people may find you. And, if you do not keep an appreciable internet attitude, your image can greatly be affected.
